The Best Loaded Burgers

In the Priest family, we are definitely burger lovin' folk. The other day I wanted to make something that would top going out to eat despite having no burger buns or patties. And oh boy, am I grateful that was the case because we already bought more ground beef to make more of what I'm about to share!

I halved Becky at Acre Homestead's bun recipe, which was superb, but any buns will do!

Ingredients, for 4 burgers:

  • 1 lb. of ground beef

  • 2 tsp. flour

  • 2 tsp Montreal seasoning (Here's a recipe for DIY Montreal seasoning if you don't have it!)

  • Mozzarella cheese

  • Cheddar cheese

  • Half an onion, caramelized

  • 4 strips of bacon

Steps:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and start caramelizing your onions whatever way you prefer.

  2. Combine the ground beef, flour, and Montreal seasoning in a bowl. If you make Becky's bun recipe and have left over egg from the egg wash, add that too.

  3. Create 4 patties, leaving about 1/4 of the meat mixture out. Place your mozzarella cheese on top and then cover with the remaining meat, closing it up so the cheese is inside.

  4. Bake the patties for 18-20 minutes, making sure that the internal temperature of the beef reaches 160 degrees. While that is in the oven, cook your bacon if you haven't already.

  5. Once all the components are completed, top the burgers with the onions, bacon, and then cheddar cheese. Set your oven to its lowest broil setting and then warm for 2-4 minutes, depending on your oven settings.

  6. Add some mayo or bbq sauce to your buns and enjoy!
